Ministry Calling: My family was attending a church in Santa Fe, TX in 1994. The Minister of Education there announced that he was returning to his hometown in Virginia to start a church. Following a men’s retreat in Palacios that August, I sensed God calling me from the corporate world and into a more involved area of ministry. About that time, our Minister of Education told me that I would be a good fit to take over his position. After praying and talking to family and church leaders, Jan & I made the change from private business to full time church ministry. I was ordained on Super Bowl Sunday, January 29, 1995 at First Baptist Church, Alta Loma where we served for 6 ½ years.
What I Enjoy About Serving at AMBC: Working with people and helping them turn the corner on spiritual maturity.
My Relationship with Christ: I began to respond to my need for a relationship with God as an 8th grader. Our town had a week long religious meeting at the football stadium. On Friday night of the meeting, I sensed God was wanting me to give Him control of my life. In doing that, I heard that the only way to have a relationship with God was to receive God’s free gift of eternal life which God provided through His Son, Jesus Christ. I was a sinner and I would receive a payment of death for my sins. I heard that my sins would prevent me from entering heaven and having a relationship with God, unless someone took care of my sin problem and paid death off for me. Jesus did that for me when He died on a cross and satisfied God’s requirement for my sin’s payment. I will still die physically, but now I know I have purpose in this life and a place with God in the next chapter of life.
