The AWANA Clubs at Anderson Mill Baptist Church 2008-2009

AWANA MINISTRY

A - Approved
W - Workman
A - Are
N - Not
A - Ashamed
The AWANA acronym is based on 2 Timothy 2:15 "Do your best to present yourselves to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of God."

In September 2004, the AWANA ministry began at AMBC.  The children are divided into age appropriate clubs.  Puggles - for 2 year olds*,  Cubbies - ages 3-4**, Sparks - grades K-2, and T&T (Truth and Training) - grades 3-5.  The children learn scripture through independent studies in their workbooks.  The children also attend Council Tim (lessons) and the obvious hit of the evening is Game Time.
* must be 2 by September 5th
** must be 3 by September 5th and potty-trained

EVANGELISM

To draw boys and girls from the surrounding community into the club ministry where they may here the gospel and accept Christ as Savior.

TRAINING

To prepare clubbers to help fulfill the Great Commission through the outreach to the lost, service to the local church, development of leadership qualities, personal spiritual growth, and knowlege about God and the Bible.

THE AWANA EMPHASIS

BIble knowledge personally applied:
While AWANA has many activities that interest boys and girls, such as games and special activities, the heart of the program in Bible memory work.  Believing that God means what He said when He promised to bless His Word, AWANA encourages the clubbers to hide His Word in their hearts.  The clubber handbooks contain between 30 and 90 verses depending on the age group, with material becoming increasingly harder as they get older.  But not to worry, clubbers will find that they become more comfortable with the memorization process as they move from club to club.
